WHEN LIGHTNING STRIKES (Benz)
tet 40" M. Dor. (Braided Lightning X Tet. Spindazzle) When lightning strikes in the seedling bed,  I don't go back and try to re-invent the wheel-I just move on. This 8" spectacular twisting, spidery red with white shark's teeth far exceeds my expectations for that cross and has proven the best flower and plant of all 68 sibs. Not quite as narrow as sib LIGHTNING STORM, but possesses deeper smoother red color, a much more consistent and dramatic edge, and twists in a cascading form I personally love, with sepals often twirling around 2-3 times like a corkscrew. As many as 25 of these big showy red blooms are borne up and out on stiff ramrod straight 38" tall scapes with 3 nicely staggered laterals and a terminal cluster. A twisting, spidery bloom done in rich true red with white sharks teeth on a massive blue-green hard dormant plant that loves freezing weather and might not even grow and bloom in the deep South. Well….I'm breeding for Ohio, where the soil freezes 10" deep and we get little snow cover if any. This beautiful plant makes a fan as large in diameter as the big end of a ball bat and has survived and bloomed on top of the ground after being left unplanted and having both crown and roots exposed all winter.  Fertile both ways, but a very difficult pod-parent. First year seedlings from this and also sib LIGHTNING STORM were stunning last summer.  FALL ONLY     $250.00
