We bloomed exactly 100 seedlings from this fortuitous cross and kept 17 for a second look. These came in all shades of pink and rose and even bright red and violet-purple. Nearly all of them were endowed with ruffles and lace and great plant habits, but there was only one WALKING TALL. This big 6' watermelon-rose with a darker eye and bubbling gold edge bloomed with 2 fans and 2 huge scapes, incredible 5-way branching, and then it re-bloomedŠŠtwice! Petals on these spectacular blooms stretch the ruler at close to 4 inches across, with 2 1/2 inch sepals to match. Huge true dormant plants have beautiful blue-green arching foliage and scapes can be as large in diameter as a US quarter where they emerge from the fan. 10 inch long branches are placed up and down and all around the scapes, often displaying 3-4 perfectly placed blooms for that "Queen-of-show" ribbon. Very fragrant and the lime green throat holds all day. Fertile both ways and a superb parent.
