This 6" beautifully ruffled bubble gum pink sib to Pink Fantasia is certainly the finest selection I ever bloomed from Tetra JEDI DOT PIERCE. CELESTIAL SPLENDOR has the large vigorous plant habit of parent DREAM LOVER, but has far better branching and re-bloom than either parent. First blooms are over 6" in diameter, with 3 3/4" petals and 2" sepals, and open early regardless of weather. Foliage is large, arching, and healthy, and needs no winter mulch here despite evergreen plant habit. Scapes are thick and strong, with 2-3 nicely spaced lateral branches and a terminal cluster, for a grand total of 25-28 buds. Fertile both ways, and very fragrant. For sheer beauty of bloom, this is perhaps the finest pink we have introduced. I was dabbing pollen from a newly induced fancy pink diploid onto CELESTIAL SPLENDOR a couple of years ago, when a highly regarded hybridizer spoke up and said, "Why would you do that? That big pink is so spectacular, I don't think any diploid can improve it." And it has not been easy improving this flower, but the offspring of CELESTIAL SPLENDOR are among the widest, most ruffled and most advanced pinks we will be introducing over the next few years. Indispensable in breeding for true pinks and I am still using it.
